The "knife trip"

They call them "knife trips", the trips planned for the purpose of undergoing cosmetic medical treatments in countries where the costs of interventions are much less compared to the one of origin.

Many in Italy have packed their bags to get a little work done in Croatia, Brazil, Morocco, Indonesia, Thailand and North Africa. "It might seem a tempting opportunity to undergo a soft, non-invasive intervention, away from prying eyes," says Gianluca Campiglio, secretary of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ISAPS) "however, there are aspects that you should evaluate, such as how to seek a known and accredited doctor, who has known references and is easily reachable after treatment, even in the event of complications.”

It is also important to ensure the quality of the facility where the doctor practices, although these are factors difficult to ascertain before leaving. Do not forget that in many countries the standards of hygiene are not those guaranteed by our Italian facilities.

So, should you really go abroad? Given the total costs and possible risks, you must consider whether it's really worth it, considering that a very important asset is at stake, which is that of your health. It could be better to take advantage of a spa vacation, in a facility that ensures the professionalism of the physician which you turn to. Not only are intimacy and privacy assured to the guests, but also if any swelling or small hematoma develops, you have plenty of time to recover and to return home in perfect shape.
